United Families California Takes Los Angeles County Fair by Storm!

(We are so popular we need your help!)

United Families’ Defend Marriage and Family Committee of Southern California, the southern California unit of the California chapter, moved into a new venue Friday, Sept. 10th at the Los Angeles County Fair at the Pomona Fairgrounds in southern California.

The 17 day long fair has the largest attendance in the nation, with 1.3 million people visiting each year. From opening day on we have been deluged by supportive people at our booth! We have so many people that we need more volunteers willing to help out over the next two weeks of the fair.

If you live in the southern California area and would like to help us out, or if you know someone who might, please contact the committee coordinator, Meredith Richey, at mrichey@unitedfamilies.org.

At our booth, we have Defend Marriage petitions for people to sign as well as UFI literature and family oriented products for sale. The overwhelming response resulted in over 600 signatures on the first night alone! After three days we have collected an amazing 1,800 signatures and the fair still has 14 days to go!

Many people have gone out of their way to thank us and have expressed their gratitude to have someone willing to stand up for marriage. (One kind man even surprised us by thoughtfully giving us a box of fudge to let us know how much he appreciates our efforts.) Support has been expressed by people of all faiths and ethnic backgrounds

While people are signing the petitions, we have the opportunity to explain that there is a possibility that the Federal Marriage Amendment may be voted on by the House of Representatives later this month or in October and to discuss the long process to amend the U.S. Constitution. We also can explain what is happening in California and encourage them to visit our Web site to keep up to date on what they need to do on California issues.

Urge the Governor to Veto These Nine Dangerous Bills!

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has his work cut out for him, wading through hundreds of bills passed by the legislature during the last days of the session and placed on his desk for his signature. Unfortunately, many bills were passed by the Democrat controlled legislature despite overwhelming opposition by Republicans and large percentages of the voting population. Click here for a summary of nine of the most dangerous of these bills and instructions on how to easily urge the governor to veto them.

Thanks For Your Continued Support!
