September 6th, 2005 Emergency State Bulletin! Assembly Passes AB 849 Battle
to Save Marriage Between a Man and a Woman Please Urge Him to Veto this Bill!
On Tuesday evening, September 6, the Assembly passed AB 849 by a one vote margin. The bill would legalize same-sex marriage in California.and now goes to the Governor. He has sent mixed signals on whether he would sign such a bill and it is essential that defenders of marriage urge him to veto it. It is clear that the bill violates the California Constitution which prohibits the legislature from overturning a law that was passed by the people through a ballot initiative. In 2000, California voters overwhelmingly passed Proposition 22 which defines in law that marriage in California is only between a man and a woman. Action Needed Please CALL AND E-MAIL Governor Schwarzenegger and urge him to veto the bill. We suggest that you make three main points.
To make it easy for you to send the Governor an e-mail, we have set up a special feature on our Web site with a suggest e-mail message already drafted that you can modify as you wish.
