California Marriage Protection Act needs YOU!

Dear Friend of the Family,

Let’s catch you up to date.

As you know, United Families California has joined the ProtectMarriage.com coalition of pro-family groups across California to put the California Marriage Protection Act on the Ballot in 2006.

When this proposition passes, it will amend the California Constitution to define marriage as solely between a man and a woman. We would join the 19 states that have already amended their state constitutions to define and safeguard marriage.

It is clear that marriage is under intense attack in our state. Activist judges are attempting to force a redefinition of marriage on us. Even though we passed Prop 22 overwhelmingly just five years ago to define marriage as only between a man and a woman, our legislature has arrogantly chosen to ignore us and passed a same-sex marriage bill. If we are to protect marriage in California, we must adopt this constitutional amendment!

To get this on the ballot, we only have a narrow window of time to collect nearly a million signatures. Let’s not leave it up to others. You can make a difference NOW!

This is our challenge: a million signatures on the protect marriage initiative petitions by December 15! Your help is greatly needed!

If we do not gather these signatures by this date, WE WILL HAVE TO START ALL OVER!

California is a BIG state! While we are making great progress, we need more help!

PLEASE contact me today at mrichey@unitedfamiles.org and say “YES TO MARRIAGE – count on my help.” I am a big believer in the power of the individual. Everyone can help and no effort is too small! We will get back with you and discuss specifically what you want to do.

Thank you to so many of you for all the petitions that are pouring in. We are seeing results! If you have not signed yourself and gathered at least a few other signatures, you can download the petition from our Web site or order forms directly from me.

We particularly appreciate those of you who have volunteered to do more and we need more volunteers to help out those who are organizing our petition drive efforts in their cities and counties.

Many of our volunteers are reviving the network and organization used during the Prop. 22 campaign in 2000. If you recall, this is when so many of us walked our neighborhoods and spoke to our neighbors on behalf of the institution of marriage that we hold dear. We need to do the same thing again, only this time we only need to collect signatures. Here are some examples of our needs:

• A volunteer father in Contra Costa County has stepped up and needs assistance!
  
• San Diego and Orange County need LEADERSHIP VOLUNTEERS!
  
• I KNOW people in the Fresno area stand up for marriage but we need someone to head up that area!
  
• Sacramento needs volunteers not only for petition signing but to help the Protect Marriage Coalition check and organize the ENORMOUS amount of petitions pouring in!

Here is a chance for real service in your community and state!

These are just a few of the places where we especially need you to stand up and participate in this important work! BUT WE NEED YOUR HELP WHERE EVER YOU LIVE! This is the reality: Without your involvement now, it is just a matter of time until we lose marriage in California. Each individual effort makes a difference.

As stated, it takes effort in all areas to make something like this work. To reiterate, please consider a donation to help this important work continue. For example, one of our volunteers just called us the other day requesting 600 petitions! As our effort grows our need will also. Your contribution is tax deductible and any amount you can contribute will be a big help. You can contribute securely on line through our Web site, or print out a mail in form if you prefer. Please contribute generously.

Again may I say, as a mother and wife myself, I am fully aware of the constraints on our time and resources but if we don’t help in this great effort to get this on the ballot immediately we may not have a chance later. If we all give a bit now, then later the reward will be worth the effort! Very few things are more worthy of contributing our time, energy and resources than saving the institution of marriage to provide a more secure future for our children and grandchildren.
