Please Help Us Put Defense of Marriage on the Ballot!

Dear friends of marriage and the family,

As Thanksgiving approaches this year my thoughts have gone back to my great great-grandfather who sailed around the horn to San Francisco in 1850 in search of a better life. One year later my great great-grandmother joined him by crossing the Isthmus of Panama and then completing her journey by sea. They started their family and the father began his career while volunteering for the San Francisco Fire Department. Years later this effort helped their daughter’s family when the great earthquake of 1906 devastated the city.

Just as our family has always been grateful for our ancestor’s willingness to volunteer and make a difference for the future, you have the opportunity NOW to make that same difference!! This year as you visit your family for Thanksgiving be sure to bring a downloaded copy of the “California Protect Marriage Initiative.”

We have only about four weeks to gather the remaining several hundred thousand signatures we need to put the state constitutional marriage amendment on the ballot next November.

Amending our state constitution to define marriage as only the union of a man and a woman is the only way we can ensure that the politicians and the judges respect the will of the majority of Californians who are opposed to legalizing same-sex “marriage.”

Many of you have sent in petitions filled with signatures and contributed time and money. We are so thankful for your willingness to stand up for marriage. BUT, LET ME BE FRANK WITH YOU, WE NEED MORE HELP:

There are FOUR ways to help:

1. GATHER SIGNATURES by taking the petition to others: The fact is this effort cannot be done by individuals staying in their homes. Please find as many other friends, family members, neighbors, work associates etc. as you can to sign in support of this ballot initiative. Send the completed forms to us as soon as possible.

2. VOLUNTEER: We also need volunteers in all parts of the state, especially in the Sacramento area. The main office of the Protect Marriage Coalition that is coordinating this effort is located there and they need help processing the tens of thousands of signature forms that are flooding in as we speak. In addition, we are helping organize teams of volunteers all over the state. WE DESPERATELY NEED YOUR HELP. Please e-mail me and we will help you get involved.

Giving service at this time of year is part of the season. What better way than to protect the institution of marriage

3. CONTRIBUTIONS: This is an enormous effort and as we are getting requests for thousands of petitions we need the funds to print and mail them. This is just the reality of our world to accomplish this. Many of you have answered this call. BUT, again, this need is VERY great! PLEASE ANSWER THIS REQUEST WITH WHATEVER YOU ARE ABLE TO GIVE. We are most appreciative.

4. PASS ALONG THIS E-MAIL: Another reality is that so many family-oriented people DO NOT KNOW THIS EFFORT IS TAKING PLACE! Please help change this by helping spread the word!

So far, 19 other states amended their state constitutions to protect marriage. We must do the same thing in California. We know it will be a HUGE battle in BUT it is worth the fight! SO LET’S QUALIFY IT FOR THE BALLOT BY GETTING THE MILLION SIGNATURES AND MAKING THIS HAPPEN!
