June 27, 2006 SPECIAL ALERT Pro-homosexual bill SB 1437 skips committees and goes
straight Please ACT NOW to Urge the Assembly to Reject SB 1437 In an unusual move, supporters of SB 1437 have skipped the regular committee hearing process and are rushing SB 1437 onto the Assembly floor this THURSDAY for a vote. Please take a minute to contact the Assembly now to stand up for family values and parental rights by using the special feature on our Web site. June 15, 2006 Important Update Homosexual
Indoctrination Bill Passes By a vote of 7-3 the Assembly Education Committee on June 14th passed SB 1437, the bill that would indoctrinate our school children to believe that homosexuality, bi-sexuality and transgenderism are normal and acceptable behaviors and lifestyles. (See the brief analysis of the bill below) United Families California attended the hearing and testified strongly against this outrageous bill. The bill now goes to the Judiciary Committee which will hold hearings on it on June 20th and it could go to the floor very soon after that. It has already passed the Senate. "There was considerably less enthusiasm for this bill in the Assembly committee than there had been in the Senate," noted United Families California President Meredith Richey. "In this committee there was more pointed questioning of the sponsor, Sen. Kuehl, which she chose not to address. It is clear that we are having an impact on this outrageous bill but we need to keep the pressure on!" Here is what you can do to help:
It is essential that we continue to put as much pressure on the Assembly as possible to try to kill this bill there. We also need to let Gov. Schwarzenegger know that we want him to veto this bill if it does get to his desk. DESPITE PRESS REPORTS THAT HE HAS COMMITTED TO VETO SB 1437, OUR ASSESSMENT IS THAT HE HAS NOT FIRMLY DECIDED TO DO SO. IT IS CRITICAL THAT HE HEARS FROM ALL PRO-FAMILY CALIFORNIANS! Thanks for whatever you can do to help! Summary of SB 1437 SB 1437 - Changes the State Education code "relating to prohibited instruction" and adds a radical sexual orientation indoctrination program This bill would prohibit schools from doing anything that can in any way be considered as adversely reflecting on any individual based on their perceived "gender" or "sexual orientation." Included would be any curriculum, text books or school sponsored activities. The term "gender" is defined as "real or perceived" and "sexual orientation" is not well defined. As a result, the schools would be forced to teach school children that all forms of sexual behavior are normal and acceptable, that gender is not important in raising children, that all forms of "family" are equal and that gender is not physically defined but merely a "social construct." This will not only undermine the prevailing norms and values of society generally but also the values and religious teaching many parents are attempting to instill in their children. What this bill would do: If SB 1437 passes, the result will be that our schools will be converted into institutions of sexual indoctrination of our children, not educational institutions. There is no way of knowing how broadly the courts or school administrations would interpret the legal requirement in this bill that nothing the school teachers or sponsors can "reflect adversely" on any homosexual, bi-sexual or transgender person,. However, it is certain that there will be no presentation of the essential facts about the health and other risks related to these behaviors and lifestyles. For example, we know from social science research that being raised by both a father and a mother is essential to the best interests of children. We know that homosexual behavior is highly risky and results in a much shorter average life expectancy. Yet, if these bills pass, schools would essentially be prohibited from presenting well documented research and other factual information like this. It is completely inappropriate for our legislature to pass legislation like this that presents only these radical and minority views and imposes this sexual indoctrination on our children. Certainly, the legislature should not be micro-managing the curriculum by requiring that textbooks and lessons highlight the sexual behaviors of key figures in California and United States history as this bill would require. Our children are not orphans or wards of the state. We, as parents, must be the ones who decide what their social and sexual education should be. The only way we can protect our children and the integrity of the educational process is to defeat SB 1437. PLEASE DO WHATEVER YOU CAN TO HELP!
